KVR CODE OF CONDUCT
KVR’s Code of Conduct follows School District #67 (Okanagan Skaha) Code of Conduct (Policy #310) and includes “The Two Rs” – meaning that our students, parents, staff, temporary staff, visitors, and district staff will:
1. Show respect for anyone who spends time in the KVR community.
2. Take responsibility for all their actions in the KVR community.
Acceptable conduct expectations are illustrated in “The Two Rs” and are in effect for all school functions, regardless of location or time of day. These expectations apply to behaviour at school, during school-organized or sponsored activities, and behaviour beyond these times (including on-line behaviour) that negatively impacts the safe, caring and orderly environment of the school, and/or student learning.
Purpose of the Code of Conduct
Our Code of Conduct is in place in order to:
Promote the values outlined in the BC Human Rights Code respecting the rights of all individuals in accordance with the law – prohibiting discrimination based on race, colour, ancestry place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, sex, or sexual orientation. The school’s code of conduct should also reflect two important purposes of the BC Human Rights Code in helping to “foster a society in British Columbia in which there are no impediments to full and free participation in economic, social, political, and cultural life of British Columbia” and to “promote a climate of understanding and mutual respect where all are equal in dignity and rights.”
Establish and maintain a safe, caring and orderly environment for a purposeful and positive learning and teaching climate.
Establish and maintain appropriate balances among individual and collective rights, freedoms and responsibilities;
Outline expectations for student conduct at school, in the community, and while acting as representatives of the school.
Student Code of Conduct
Students are expected to act in a manner that enables all students and staff to participate effectively in the educational community. Every student shall be subject to the code of conduct established for the School District while at school, at a school-related activity or in other circumstances where engaging in the activity will have impact on the school environment.
